Please excuse the informal phrase, but lately, I’ve been working on a crapton of projects. One of these I’m gonna talk about today.
The project in question is…Pokémon in Latin! That’s right. I am studying a Pokémon Red text dump, and am slowly but surely translating the game. I reckon I’ve done about…six percent of it. But what I have done is quality work. So now, I want to show you guys some of what I’ve done. By the way, I’m calling this “Pokémon Rubens”. “Rubens” means “Red”, as evidenced by the English “Ruby”.
I plan to do other stuff also, like a Yoruba translation, a Greek translation, a Hawaiian translation. And Portuguese! You know all the Pokémon games there are released there in English, with only the manuals translated? Not cool! I want to, y’know, kinda branch out a bit. There are many popular languages that use the Latin alphabet, so lots of choices.
Anyway, here are some sample move names.

These are just a few of the move names. A hint to finding these out- Latin contributed loads to English- if you see a word that reminds you of English, it probably has to do with that word. Eg- “Mutate” is derived from the Latin word “Mutare” meaning “To change”. Just a hint. For everything else, there’s Google Translate!

As you can see, I’m following the naming patterns of the English version. For example, Snepres, which is Ekans’ translation, is “Serpens” (Snake) backwards, just as “Ekans” is “Snake backwards.
