Need Some Motivation? Listen To This

I love music. It can alter moods, bring back memories, and inspire you. That last is why I’ve decided to share one of my favourite songs with you guys. It’s by a band named “Limousine“, and it’s called “Raise Your Voice”. This song is very special to me, and to be honest, I think everyone in the world should hear this. It doesn’t get nearly the attention it deserves. Anyway…I’ve listened to it so many times that I know the lyrics by heart, so I’ve written them below the link. For some weird reason, my embed function isn’t working, so you’ll have to open a new tab. Enjoy!

Freedom…is such a precious thing

  • Don’t just talk about it…

  • Raise your voice and sing…

Freedom (freedom!)

[Verse 1]

  • Comin’ together…

  • In every way…

  • Don’t put it off…

  • Not another day

  • Do all you can…

  • To make it right

  • Change is comin’…

  • That you just can’t fight

  • Ride the wave…

  • That takes you there

  • Make your choice…

  • Gamble if you dare

[Chorus]

  • Can’t you taste it?

  • Feel it in the air?

  • Don’t you waste it

  • No time to spare

  • Because I’m talkin’ ’bout freedom (freedom!)

  • Is such a precious thing…

  • Don’t just talk about it…

  • Raise your voice and sing

  • Freedom (freedom!)

[Verse 2]

  • [Indistinguishable]

  • So you better make it good

  • Do everything…

  • You know you should

  • Oh, yeah!

  • [Guitar solo]

  • [Synth solo]

  • Got to get…

  • Your point across

  • You’re your own master…

  • You’re your own boss

  • Danger’s comin’…

  • So you better take some pride

  • And make sure…

  • You’re on the winning side

  • [Drum break]

  • [Chorus]

    • Can’t you taste it?

    • Feel it in the air?

    • Don’t you waste it

    • No time to spare

  • Taste it…

  • Feel it in the air…

  • Don’t you waste it

  • No time to spare

  • ‘Cause I’m talkin’ ’bout freedom (freedom!)

  • Is such a precious thing…

  • Don’t just talk about it…

  • Raise your voice and sing

  • You know I’m talkin’ ’bout freedom (freedom!)

  • Is such a precious thing

  • Don’t just talk about it…

  • Raise your voice and sing

  • ‘Cause I’m talkin’ ’bout…

  • Freedom (freedom!)

  • Is such a precious thing

  • Don’t just talk about it…

  • Raise your voice and sing

OSLW 2

Time for our second installment! When I’m able to, I’ll install reference links for the benefit of people who are just starting.

  1. Ab-equito

LinkandEponaMajoraThis verb means “To ride away“. It can also mean “To leave“. This is fascinating because 1, the only other word just means “To ride“, not in a specific way, and 2, this is derived from the word “equus“, meaning “horse“.

Example sentence: Abequitāvit ante potuī persequar ei.

He rode away before I could catch up to him.

In addition to the Chambers-Murray Latin-English Dictionary, there is another invaluable resource I forgot to mention yesterday: Cassell’s Standard Latin Dictionary.

Between these two books, the sum of all Latin knowledge is contained.

OSLW 1

What’s up, guys? 😀

Today, I decided to start the series I’ve been rolling around in my head for a few months. It’s called “OSLW” (pronounced like Norway’s capital), and it stands for “Oddly Specific Latin Words“. Latin is a super cool and fun language, and it has some words that are applicable to very strange situations. I’ll be showing those off, one word at a time. Without further ado, here’s our first word!

Ablaqueō

LinkToThePastShovel

This means “To loosen the earth/soil around a tree“. ??? Apparently, this process was done in order to make trenches for water. Yeah, I don’t get that. But this is just a small peek into history through a tiny word…

Example sentence:  Pugnae multus arbore ablaqueāverat.

The many fights around the tree had loosened the soil around the tree.

That’s our first installment!

The source of many of these words, and the tool I swear by, The Chambers-Murray Latin-English Dictionary, can be gotten here.

This is one of my favorite books, and it’s extremely wallet-friendly as well as very fun to have around, so make sure you pick up a copy! 😀
